strong>Process Overview
In automotive paint shop operations, the coating process generally consists of metal surface pretreatment followed by coating application stages. The primary purpose of surface pretreatment is to remove oil, grease, dust, rust, and residual contaminants from the body surface, thereby improving surface condition and ensuring proper coating adhesion.
During the pre-degreasing and degreasing stages, contaminants removed from the workpieces—such as oil residues, iron particles, and suspended solids—are released into the degreasing bath. These impurities gradually accumulate in the solution and must be continuously removed to maintain bath performance.
After appropriate solid removal and oil–water separation, the degreasing solution can be recirculated and reused, significantly extending bath life and reducing chemical consumption.
A typical degreasing solution filtration process includes:
Degreasing Bath → Solid/Liquid Separator → Magnetic Filtration → Bag Filtration
Filtration Challenges in Degreasing Processes In degreasing applications, contaminants removed from the workpieces tend to continuously accumulate in the bath if not properly controlled.

Filtration Challenges in Degreasing Processes In degreasing applications, contaminants removed from the workpieces tend to continuously accumulate in the bath if not properly controlled.
- Gradual buildup of iron particles, oil sludge, and suspended solids
- Declining degreasing efficiency as solution cleanliness deteriorates
- Increased risk of nozzle, piping, and pump blockage
- Potential re-deposition of contaminants onto workpiece surfaces
- Reduced coating quality and increased defect rates
Engineering Objectives of Degreasing Solution Filtration
- Rapidly remove contaminants from the circulating solution
- Maintain stable degreasing performance over extended operating periods
- Prevent clogging and mechanical damage to pumps and spray systems
- Reduce the risk of contaminant reattachment to workpieces
- Extend degreasing bath service life and lower chemical consumption
Filtration Solutions for Degreasing Applications Magnetic Filtration
- Automatic removal of ferromagnetic particles and iron oxide
- Effective capture of fine and weakly magnetic contaminants
- Reduced solid loading on downstream filtration stages
- Improved overall system stability under heavy contamination conditions
- High solids holding capacity suitable for heavily contaminated solutions
- Flexibility in filtration rating selection
- Simple maintenance and filter bag replacement
- Low initial investment with minimal system modification
Advantages of the Combined Filtration Approach
- Reduced contaminant accumulation in the degreasing bath
- Improved degreasing efficiency and bath stability
- Extended service life of filter bags
- Lower risk of equipment blockage and damage
- Improved downstream coating quality
