p style="color: #111 !important;">Safety and structural integrity are non-negotiable for industrial pressure vessels. At CMI, every filter housing we manufacture undergoes a rigorous Hydrostatic Pressure Test before shipment.

This validation confirms that the vessel body, weld seams, flanges, closures, nozzles, and sealing interfaces can safely withstand pressures above normal operating conditions without leakage or permanent deformation.

Hydrostatic Pressure Test

Testing Standards: Exceeding Global Requirements

CMI aligns hydrostatic testing procedures with internationally recognized pressure vessel practices. Depending on project specification, different code requirements may apply.

  • EN 13445 / AD2000 (European Practice): Test Pressure = 1.43 × Design Pressure
  • ASME Section VIII (U.S. Practice): Test Pressure = 1.3 × Design Pressure

As an internal quality benchmark, CMI commonly applies the 1.43× pressure level where practical, providing additional safety margin and confidence in vessel durability.

Our Testing Protocol

1. Preparation

The filter housing is completely filled with a testing liquid, typically clean or demineralized water. For stainless steel vessels, chloride levels are controlled to reduce the risk of stress corrosion damage during testing.

2. Controlled Pressurization

Pressure is gradually increased using calibrated hydrotest equipment until the required target pressure is reached.

3. Holding Period

The vessel is maintained at test pressure for a defined holding period, commonly 30 minutes or according to project requirements.

4. Inspection & Verification

During the hold period, CMI quality personnel inspect weld seams, flanges, closures, threaded joints, and sealing points.

A successful test requires:

  • No visible leakage
  • No measurable pressure drop
  • No permanent distortion
  • No structural abnormality

Why Hydrotesting is Essential

Verification of Weld Integrity

Hydrotesting subjects vessel welds to elevated stress, helping confirm weld penetration quality and structural soundness.

Sealing Validation

The test confirms that gaskets, O-rings, closure lids, blind flanges, and connection points are properly seated and leak-tight.

Operational Confidence

Customers receive housings that have already been pressure validated before field installation, reducing commissioning risk.

Traceable Documentation

Hydrotest results can be documented in formal inspection reports linked to vessel serial numbers for maintenance records, QA files, and insurance or audit purposes.
